Klimczyk 1 Matt Klimczyk Mrs. Smail English Comp. 2 1:00 February 14, 2008 Argument Essay In the article by Jonathan Rauch, “Now, for tonight’s assignment…” the thought of children failing in our educational system is brought up. Rauch claims in his article that “there is one quite cheap and uncomplicated way to increase study time: add more homework.” This is a valid point that children are not succeeding in school as well as we would like. Though assigning even more homework than already given is not the answer. Rauch explains that students who do more homework are receiving better grades than those of students who do not study or do homework as much. This is common sense. The students, who are not excelling, are those students who do not do their homework, period. To solve this problem, it takes more than just piling on more homework. Students who did not do the homework at first are certainly not going to after another hour of it has been added. The key, in these students’ minds, is do
