Maxillofacial and Orthodontics Unit Combined orthodontic and surgical planning clinic Information for new patients Welcome to Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. You have been given an appointment to attend our combined orthodontic and surgical planning clinic. Why have I been referred? Your condition is one which may be impossible to treat fully with a brace (orthodontic appliance) alone. It is likely that a combination of appliance therapy and corrective jaw surgery will be offered to you. It is rare for jaw surgery alone to be an option. What happens at the assessment? Each patient is given a separate appointment time, but some cases take longer to discuss than others, so we do not always run to time. If you are kept waiting, we apologise. We will try to show what the treatment would involve, using photographs and models of teeth. We also estimate how long the treatment will take and try to fit in with your school and work commitments, but this is not always possible.
