The two Artists I have chosen are Max Ernst and Rene Magritte, Who are both surrealists. Surrealism is a hard thing for me to grasp, I enjoy the appearance of it yet at the same time don’t always understand it. This is why I liked writing this paper, because it gave me a chance to get to the bottom of something that has always puzzled me but I have never set the time aside to actually look into it. If you were to get a definition of Surrealism it would say something like “a style of art and literature developed principally in the 20th century, stressing the subconscious or non-rational significance of imagery”. Yet I feel those are only words and not feelings and art should portray feelings. Actually understanding the difference between what we see and what we know is a challenge. To me what we see is how we were brought up to portray life and how to process it, where what we know is how we feel when something inspires us and that first thought that pops into your head when you look at a certain painting or object.
