LATIN 2 YR (FL3H) January 23, 2010 Period 7 Chapter 16 Why is Sextus a Pest? Iam nōna hōra erat. It was at the ninth hour now. Adhūc immōbilis in fossā haerēbat raeda. Still the carriage stuck in the ditch motionlessly. Sed nihil facere Sextum taedēbat, nam puer strēnuus erat. But nothing makes Sextus bored, for the boy was energetic. Subitō igitur ad raedam currit et cistam aperit. Therefore he suddenly ran toward the carriage and opened the chest. Tum ē cistā pilam extrahit. Then out of the chest, he took out a ball. “Vīsne pilā lūdere, Marce?” clāmat. Pilam ad Marcum statim iacit. “Do you want to play ball Marcus?” shouted. He threw the ball toward Marcus immediately. Marcus eam excipit et ad Sextum mittit. Marcus catches it and sends it towards Sextus. Identidem puerī pilam iaciēbant, alter ad alterum. The boys repeatedly throw the ball, the one toward the other. Tum Sextus, quī semper Cornēliam vexāre vult, per iocum pilam iacit et Cornēliam ferit. Then Sextus, who always wishes to annoy Cornelia, as a prank, throws the ball and Cornelia hits it. Statim īrāta Cornēlia ad mātrem sē vertit et, “Cūr mē semper vexat Sextus, māter?” clāmat. Cornelia becomes angry and immediately turns to her mother and says, “Why does Sextus always annoy me mother?”. “Cūr pilam in mē iacit? “Why does he throw the ball towards me? Quam molestus puer est Sextus!” How annoying of a boy Sextus is!” “Venī ad mē, cārissima,” respondet māter et fīliam complexū tenet. “Come to me, dearest,” responded mother and the daughter holds her in an embrace. “Sextus tē ferīre in animō nōn habēbat. “Sextus you intended to hit her. Est puer strēnuus, est puer temerārius, nōn tamen est puer scelestus.” He is an energetic boy, he is a reckless boy, however not a wicked boy.” “Sed cūr Sextus apud nōs habitat?” rogat Cornēlia, quae adhūc īrāta est. “But why does Sextus live with us?” asked Cornelia, who still is angry. “Cūr pater Sextī eum ad nōs mittit?” “Why did Sextus’s father send him to us?” “Pater Sextī ad Asiam iter facit. “Sextus’s father is making a journey toward Asia.
