BENEFITS OF SOLITUDE 2 Benefits of Solitude Solitude is misconceived by some people to be a scaring experience that is witnessed by the miserable and lonely. However, to those that value solitude, it is one of the greatest aspects of life. A solitary is very advantageous to those that live it. Solitude is not about walking up and down in the house trying to get something to do to escape boredom. On the contrary, it entails spending time with oneself and growing in the various aspects of life. It is time spent to develop oneself in many ways. Notably, a solitary life is a way of getting to interact with the inner self, and learning more about oneself. It is time spent discussing things about “yourself with yourself”. Further, it is learning to understand the inner self and knowing more about a person’s inner thoughts. Solitude helps an individual to get over a bad encounter in life. Also, it is a way of getting back on the right track. A solitary life is beneficial to a person’s emotional, physical, mental and spiritual well-being. Solitude creates an ideal moment when one can reflect on the scriptures and gain insights into a spiritual journey as well as get a quiet space to read edifying materials (Calhoun, 2015). It is a context for putting into practice one’s personal disciplines. It entails putting yourself in a situation that is conducive to exercise spiritual disciplines such as meditation, prayer, and reading the scriptures. Solitude creates ample space for one to enjoy the benefits of fellowshipping with God just like Jesus Christ (Calhoun, 2015). Through intentionality, one is consistently able to spend time in solitude to connect with God. Individuals who wish to hear the whispers of God retreat to a silent space, free from noise pollution in daily lives. The quiet place is still enough to
