Female Reproductive Cycle Involves two sets of changes: The ovarian cycle controls the growth and releases of an ovum (egg  cell) The menstrual cycle prepared the uterus for possible implantation of  an embryo Both cycles take 28days (on average) and are synchronixed by sex  hormones Ovarian Cycle = events that take place in the ovaries Under the control of two hormones, LH and FSH, produced in your  brain o Figure 26.8 Menstrual cycle = events that take place in the uterus The endometrium becomes thicker, then is shed if no fertilization has  taken place Under the control of estrogen and progesterone, produced in the ovary Contraception no sex or no sex on certain days o gametes produced:
