Gibbons 1 Kelli Gibbons Dr. Lauren Kempton Genocide in Modern Times 15 March 2008 Movie Paper: Hotel Rwanda For the movie assignment I watched to emotional movie Hotel Rwanda . The movie is based on the real life events of a man named Paul Rusesabagina. He was a hotel owner who opened up the doors to the hotel he managed to anyone he could rescue during the genocide in Rwanda. Right before I watched the film, I am embarrassed to admit, that I researched some background information on the genocide, and I realized that even with the amazing fast moving technology that we had available at the time and still today the genocide went nearly unreported. I am embarrassed to admit that I knew little about this genocide, when it is clearly something that the world should have been acting to change. However, I was quick to realize that practically no media coverage seems to have focused on the genocide at all, or any genocide for that matter. Through my research and the help of the film I learned that the genocide took place due to the over-boiling feuds between the Tutsi and Hutu tribes. Because of the genocide nearly one million people died in just three months. Through out all of this one man, Paul Rusesabagina,
