David Sue English 102-EB Assignment #3 In the stories of "How I Met My Husband" and "Good Country People," both main characters enter a potentially harmful situation with a boy. This essay will discuss the situations, motivations, characters, and conclusions in both stories. In "How I Met My Husband," Edie went to tell Chris Watters that the Peebles' and Alice Kelling were going on a picnic, and that they would be back by five. She also brought a crumb cake that she baked for him. They kiss and come close to having sex, but Chris stops before it happens, promising Edie that he would write to her so she could come to him. Edie, never having any reason to doubt him, is not sad to say goodbye. In "Good Country People," Hulga is fascinated by Manley's seemingly innocent ignorance. She assumes that he is a good country boy and a "fine Christian," when in actuality, he is exactly the opposite. Hulga goes with Manley on a picnic in the woods, and since she believes that Manley is trustworthy, she is not afraid for her own well- being. This story ends badly, as we find that Manley is not at all what he claims to be. He
