1 Maria Allen Professor Greathouse January 13,2021 Emile Durkheim Emile Durkheim was born on April 15, 1858. He is the founder of the French school of sociology and the cardinal founder of modern sociology. He was born into a Jewish family and received his education in France and Germany. Since being born into a Jewish family, his father thought of becoming a rabbi just like he was. Durkheim did not follow in his father's footsteps. Unfortunately, his father passed away when he was just twenty years old. The event of losing his father made him become a firm independent, castigate, and strong young man with a great sense of ethics. Durkheim was hopeful that science would balance and strengthen France following the war's loss in 1871. I chose to write about Emile Durkheim because it fascinated me that his focus was the bond that holds people together and the correlation between having social isolation and its connection to suicide on a large scale. To help build his confidence, he turned to the hard evidence of the science of sociology as represented in Auguste Comte's work to understand social change. As a society, we have pondered
