Anon. Everyone has certain things that they would like to accomplish or try during the duration of his or her stay here on Earth. I wrote mine out. I call it “the list”. It’s helpful to have written out so I don’t forget anything that I want to do. Procrastination often impedes the undertaking of my tasks however, so when I actually can cross off an item it gives me a feeling of satisfaction and reinforces my self-image with confidence. One such list entry that I had been putting off for several months was learning how to surf. In the middle of August, my family and I flew to San Diego for our annual summer trip. While we were there, we visited a town called Cardiff By-the-Sea. My mother had signed up my brother and me for private surf lessons there. I was excited, as learning to surf had been on my list of things to do for quite some time. People I knew who surfed all told me how much fun it was, and I imagined it would be a challenge to stand up on a wave, one worth bragging about once accomplished. I soon found that it
