4.0 Layout Decision4.1 Findings4.1.1 Utilisation of space for equipmentSpace utilisation includes everything from ensuring that traffic lanes are wide enough to makingcertain inventory storage and room utilise as much space as possible to ensure efficientoperations (Flessas et al. 2015). Based on the layout of Burger King, there is a spacious diningarea with numerous tables and chairs provided for customers to dine-in, including indoors andoutdoors (Diagram 1, 2 and 3). The dining area is designed with at least three sizes of tables toaccommodate small, medium and large group of customers. The middle section is mostly usedfor longer tables, while the window area and the side area are used for bar and the smaller tables,which provide private space. Between every table, there is ample distance, allowing customers todine-in and move comfortably.Furthermore, the spacious food ordering zone with two counters are set up in a straight line at thecentre of the space enables customers to queue up comfortably for ordering (Diagram 4). Thekitchen is located at the back of the counter, which has adequate space for all necessaryequipment and employees to move around while conducting their operational tasks. The ice-cream makers, carbohydrate drinks machine and food display counter are placed at the front rowin the wide kitchen zone (Diagram 5). The rest of the kitchen equipment is placed subsequentlyin U-shape behind that, which those equipment with similar functions are grouped together(Diagram 6).On the counter’s left side, there is a wash basin provided with mirror for customers to have aquick hand washing (Diagram 7). On the counter’s right side, there are two cabinets. One isdining cabinet displaying the sauces, the other is trash cabinet, likewise are placed at theoutdoors. A baby chair is also placed in between the cabinets to make easier for customers to takeit when needed. The restrooms and Janitor’s room are located near to the dining area, which isseparated by a wooden door (Diagram 8 and 9). Each restroom has sufficient space for people toutilise. However, the cleaning supplies are placed at the entrance area of the restroom (Diagram10).
4.1.2 Signage and flow of information layoutA customer can easily locate a shop and understand the products with the help of signage thatuses of signs and symbols to convey message of business to people (Gray 2018). In Burger King,there is an LED letter signboard and a blister light box sign displayed on the shop front foradvertising purposes (Diagram 11). The large signboard with simple design and proper lightingenables Burger King to stand out within the area.
