1) Alternate non drug reinforcements will effectively increase smoking abstinence when reinforcements are delivered on an optimum schedule. Drug abstinence can be contingent on non drug reinforcements. 2.) There were three groups, the progressive reinforcement group, the fixed- reinforcement group and the control group. 3.) The levels of independent variables were reinforcement contingent on abstinence and reinforcement not continent on abstinence. 4.) The dependent variables were the differences in abstinence levels in each group and the effect of the monetary reinforcement and/or the set reinforcement schedule. 5.) The level of abstinence was measured by a Carbon Monoxide meter at each visit. They measured the effect of the monetary reinforcement by recording and keeping track of the patterns of success for each of the different groups and comparing their statistical significance. The control group was used as in a within subjects experiment and helpd to measure if abstinence was contingent on reinforcement. 6.)
