The critique and appraisal of an article using Caldwell Framework.

Introduction
The nursing profession to give preeminent standards of upkeep to its patients or clients;
however, to achieve this, they must deliver evident-built practice as much as possible
(LoBiondo-Wood & Haber, 2014). Ideally, for improving nursing practice in providing their
services, it is worth noting that evidence-built action must be considered to develop their
experience. Therefore, this is accomplished by nurses executing critique appraisal of the
research article. However, this essay involves critical analysis and appraisal of an article,
“Real-time associated between glucose levels and fatigue in type 2 diabetes: sex and time
effects”. Caldwell critical and appraisal tool will be used to retrieve data and critically
appraise the selected article. Caldwell Appraisal tool was chosen over various other tools
such as CASP tool because it provides the framework for the critical analysis and appraisal
for both qualitative and quantitative research articles (Lee, 2012). However, the Caldwell
appraisal framework will also provide a suitable strategy or approach to assess the
appropriateness and reliability of the selected research article.

Critique and appraisal
The title of the article “Real-time associated between glucose levels and fatigue in type 2
diabetes: sex and time effects” is brief and concise as well as identifies the relationship
between glucose levels and fatigue in type 2 diabetes. According to Coughlan et al. (2007),
appropriate structuring of the title enhances the believability of the study and proposes that
it should neither be too long or too short. The title of the current article is adequate as it
provides the focus of the research. It is evident that the survey is utilizes a quasi-
experimental design but failed to present the population or group which the research is
focusing on because according to Beck & Polit (2008), a research article should include the

key variables that identifies the area of focus of the study and the study group or population
to make a good article title, as evidence by this article. Even though the aging population
which is the study population is identified in the abstract, its absence in the title greatly
influenced the appropriateness of the title. Again, the titled failed to indicate that it is a
quantitative study that is using descriptive phenomenological design; hence the title could
be considered catchy.
