MHN2802 Developing Scientific Principles forMental Health NursingThe critique and appraisal of an article using Caldwell Framework.
IntroductionThe nursing profession to give preeminent standards of upkeep to its patients or clients;however, to achieve this, they must deliver evident-built practice as much as possible(LoBiondo-Wood & Haber, 2014). Ideally, for improving nursing practice in providing theirservices, it is worth noting that evidence-built action must be considered to develop theirexperience. Therefore, this is accomplished by nurses executing critique appraisal of theresearch article. However, this essay involves critical analysis and appraisal of an article,“Real-time associated between glucose levels and fatigue in type 2 diabetes: sex and timeeffects”. Caldwell critical and appraisal tool will be used to retrieve data and criticallyappraise the selected article. Caldwell Appraisal tool was chosen over various other toolssuch as CASP tool because it provides the framework for the critical analysis and appraisalfor both qualitative and quantitative research articles (Lee, 2012). However, the Caldwellappraisal framework will also provide a suitable strategy or approach to assess theappropriateness and reliability of the selected research article.Critiquing and appraisal of research article using Caldwell FrameworkResearch ArticleCynthia Fritschi, PhD, RN, C , Chang Park, PhD, Laurie Quinn, PhD, RN,and Eileen G. Collins,PhD, RN, FAACVPR, FAAN, ATSF (2020). Real-time associated between glucose levels andfatigue in type 2 diabetes: sex and time effects. Biological Research for Nursing; 22(2), pp.197-204.Critique and appraisalThe title of the article “Real-time associated between glucose levels and fatigue in type 2diabetes: sex and time effects” is brief and concise as well as identifies the relationshipbetween glucose levels and fatigue in type 2 diabetes.According to Coughlan et al. (2007),appropriate structuring of the title enhances the believability of the study and proposes thatit should neither be too long or too short. The title of the current article is adequate as itprovides the focus of the research. It is evident that the survey is utilizes a quasi-experimental design but failed to present the population or group which the research isfocusing on because according to Beck & Polit (2008), a research article should include the
key variables that identifies the area of focus of the study and the study group or populationto make a good article title, as evidence by this article. Even though the aging populationwhich is the study population is identified in the abstract, its absence in the title greatlyinfluenced the appropriateness of the title. Again, the titled failed to indicate that it is aquantitative study that is using descriptive phenomenological design; hence the title couldbe considered catchy.
