Lauren Marley English 102-33 November 27, 2007 Domestic Violence “Domestic violence causes far more pain than the visible marks of bruises and scars.” (1) Domestic violence is defined as violence between intimate partners. The violence can be physical, sexual, or emotional. (4) Many who might believe that the horrific crime of domestic violence might only affect the victim in the situation but it also affects the abuser and the surrounding family involved. The effects on victims in domestic violent situation can be harmful to them through out their entire life. People who have been abused have been known to have long to term affects to their physical and mental health. Some effects victims might have are anxiety, chronic depression, eating disorders, panic attacks, chronic pain, and suicide attempts. (3) Due to the psychological aspects of the violence many victims are reluctant to confront the issue. It is hard for domestic violence to be exposed because it occurs in the home, so most are not aware of the problem. Those who
