Surname 1 Student’s Name Professor’s Name Course Date Plastic pollution in the ocean has become a vital concern in the environment for the members of public worldwide, governments and nongovernmental organizations across the world. Plastic pollution which is as a result of plastic waste has cause alarm and it is rapidly increasing each day. It has become the major cause of global concern since it is damaging our beautiful planet thus having a negative repercussion on the living beings. Over years, human activities have led to detrimental ocean pollution which as a result has affected the marine ecosystem and the environment in general. Notably, plastic is among the leading cause of pollution since there is increased killing of sea birds and marine creatures in a year. Plastic has remained to be the most harmful trash dumped by mariners as well as sea goers in sea due to its ability to resist breaking down. Therefore, plastic pollution has a negative effect to the water and the general environment though there are various solutions which has being set to curb this fatal action. Plastics are mostly use because they are easy to make and cheap to purchase and have a long life span. However, these useful qualities can turn to be a big pollution problem to the environment. Being cheap means that they can get discarded easily, and its long life means it can survive in the environment for long time thus causing great harm. This is because plastics are non-degradable and requires are high ultra-light to break them. Thus, there is an increase in the amount of plastic wastes in the waters and oceans. Plastics are harmful to the marine animal and birds since they cause death. A significant number of sea turtles confuse disposed plastic as
Surname 2 jellyfish. Therefore, plastics are lodged in there digestive system which eventually leads to slow and painful death. This is clear indication of how serious plastics pollute the ocean and the harm it causes to the sea animals. Ingestion of plastic is likely to lead to both internal and external wounds, mutilation in the feeding capacity, blockage of digestive system which is eventually followed by satiation and hunger, and the general debilitation which causes death. Notably, if people consume these animals whose digestive tracts contain plastics, the plastic will also cause harm to the human beings. Therefore, the increase of these synthetic and non-biodegradable materials in the marine debris increases the dispersal and the prospects for invasion by the non- indigenous species. Also, plastic pollution has a negative to the environment through the effects it crates to turtle. All the seven world turtle species are either endangered or threatened. The easily get entangle in fishing net and a significant number of them have been found with plastic bags in their stomachs. They die from chocking after struggling to swallow and being unable to eat. As plastic can accumulate in various parts of the digestive tract, stomach lavages underestimate the incidence of ingestion. Thus, since plastic cannot decompose, a piece of plastic in the ocean will
