3 The World Health Organization was formed April 7, 1948, and this definition is a part of the WHO Constitution. WHO definition of Health “Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well -being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity,” states the Preamble to the Constitution of the World Health Organization as adopted by the International Health Conference, New York, 19-22 June, 1946; signed on 22 July 1946 by the representatives of 61 States (Official Records of the World Health Organization, no. 2, p. 100) and entered into force on 7 April 1948. The World Health Organization may be found at On March 4, 2005, the organization released information on an almost 40% reduction in deaths from measles. The organization also has dealt with new diseases . SARS severe acute respiratory syndrome, is a new disease, one that did not exist at the end of the last century. In May, 2003, a group of experts met in Geneva to hold the first global consultation on SARS. Because of advanced technology, those epidemiologists who could not attend were able to participate through video and audio links. The World Health Organization worked toward coming up with a definition that would be used by different countries. WHO, especially the Department of Communicable Disease Surveillance and Response (CSR), was a frequently cited source throughout the media coverage of SARS.

Octopus can blend into the environment which help them to survive. For humans, who are social beings, so we survive by adapting to social circumstances. Therefore we cope through social support and social roles. Humans adapt socially, technology, through medicine, etc. If you have to stop your daily activities i.e. not being able to adapt effects biological health, we need interaction 4

People like to present themselves as being in the in-group. -Self presentation, group presentation and stereotypes. -Presentation helps give you social control in the situation. -Social octopus: where we are in the social world important for our health/survival 5

-Prejudice against other group (older to young or vice versa) -Self prejudice: you look at yourself from your stereotypical perspective; you will underperform if you think you are a part of the disadvantage group. --eg. Women are bad in Maths, if you tell them that i.e. create the awareness of the stereotype, then the women will underperform, or Older person: if they think they aren’t good at an activity (technology) then they will underperform) --eg. Bring older people to university setting would increase their stress levels compared to PSY100 students
