Discussion: In this lab we created electrochemical cells using lead and copper. In the two parts we tested to see how the voltage would change according to the concentrations of the metal solutions that made up the cell. In part one of the lab we measured the voltage of a chemical cell composed of 1 molar solutions of lead nitrate and copper nitrate. Initially we had to set up the cell by cleaning the lead and copper metal strips. Immediatley after we put the strips in their respective metal solutions (before the metal oxidized and lost potential conductivity), and then we connected the metal strips to the volt meter in order to measure the amount of current that the cell produced. We took our first reading at room temperature and got a cell voltage of .4017. We then proceded to heat the solutions in a water bath over a Bunsen burner to 68 degrees and then we took a second reading, which was .515. Finally we waited 15 minutes before taking the last measurement. From our data, we proceded to calculate the spontaneity and the equilibrium constant. We got
