Tuesday, September 4, 2007 Anthropology- study of humans, Anthropos- refers to man or human, ology- study of. The study of man or humans- 4 sub disciplines Cultural - the study of different human cultures, tries to document and understand the different cultures, there are groups that are applied anthropology and they join corporations. They seek to understand the corporate culture of the business, and they learn how different groups of people can work together even better. Linguistic - the study of languages or communication that humans use. It is sometimes collapsed into cultural and most don’t consider it a Sub category. Can deconstruct languages and learn how people were related in the past and they can do this by looking at their languages like French and Spanish. Work backwards to see where the languages might have evolved into their own over time. Archaeology -study the material remains of past societi es a way of working out past cultures. Looking at what people leave behind is a way of gaining insight on the way that people live. Look at the tools, structures, good, and bones. Physical or Biological - looks at our physical makeup, others look at what we do but biological looks at what we are, the study of human biology through the framework of evolution. o Skeletal Biology - interested in the process in forming the skeleton. There is a lot that we can learn about the skeleton and what the skeleton can tell us about us. A sub category of Physical Biology. Different nutrients can
