Tuesday, October 9, 2007 Chapter 7 Review Fire Related Properties of Materials This chapter deals with the nomenclature, or description of terms that describe the resistance to fire that building components, building plan arrangement, and fire warnding and extinguishing methods must have to protect the occupants of buildings. Integrity of building components is foremost in te prevention of spreading fire within a structure. Arrangement of space is important in that a clear path to safety must be provided in event of a fire Early warning signals allow occupants the opportunity to exist the building- but occupants must be responsible to respond positively to that signal, once a fire occurs, it must be extinguished as quickly as possible. Factors that affect fire safety - architectural design - construction materisl and systems - fire dection and supresssion - public education Fire prevention -Building codes Fire prevention code NFPA in US0 safety in a building during use and occupancy Locating and maintain fire protection appliances
