Reflect on the play and write what the play is about in one sentence. The unfortunate reality that past sins will haunt you until they are brought to light. Step 3. Identify the time period of the play. Setting of the play: The exact location is unknown. The family lives on a farm somewhere north of New Mexico and Florida. Authorship of the play: Sam Shepard wrote Buried Child in 1978. Step 4. Learn about the author Shepard was born in Fort Sheridan, Illinois on November 5, 1943. He grew up working as a ranch hand. He dropped out of college to join a traveling theatre troupe then avoided the Vietnam draft by claiming to be a heroine addict. Some of the plays he has written include “Curse of the Starving Class,” “True West,” and the film “Renaldo and Clara.” Step 5. Reflect on the genre of the play Realistic melodrama
