High Performance Pyramid 4 levels of peak performance Rituals that promote the alternation of expenditure and recovery of energy link the levels of the pyramid Foundation – physical capacity builds endurance Builds endurance and promotes mental and emotional recovery Problem w/today’s executives is that they push themselves too hard mentally and not enough physically leads to worse performance Physical activity can help endurance in the office b/c it is energizing work fewer hours and get more done Nutrition is also extremely important to sustain energy 2 nd level is emotional capacity creates internal climate Internal climate that supports peak performance Positive emotions drive high performance Negative emotions (frustration, impatience, anger, etc) drain energy and decrease performance ex) anxious athletes are more likely to choke in competition Need to build rituals that constrain negative emotions
