ARH 1-26 - Egyptian theme is that your king is Divine or god on earth. - Your main theme in life was to prepare for the afterlife. - Your soul (ka) live on in the afterlife. - Your tomb should be filled with things you need in the after life. - Mastaba(bench) tomb- Brick rectangular sloped sides erected over an underground burial chamber. Most common form of tomb. - Sometimes attached was a small room or temple to house a statue of the deceased. Called a serdab. Constructed with two small holes so the statute could watch the rituals. - Used as a stand in incase that the mortal body is ruined the Ka can find its way back and not get confused. - Interior walls were often decorated. - Mastaba are predecessors to the pyramid. - Earliest type of pyramids were step pyramids. - Imhotep, Stepped Pyramid of Djoser- Saqqara, Old Kingdom, c.2600BC. o Imhotep built the Pyramid and was Djosers man. o First recorded architect and artist. o
