Depicts the gods as less fierce - Aphrodite of Knidos (Praxiteles) p.131 (5-60) c. 350BC, Late Classical (Vatican) Roman copy of Greek original o 6’8” o Roman marble copy of Greek in marble as well o Extremely important because it is the first life size 3d nude female figure in western art o Humanized Aphrodite by depicting her completely nude and is shown vulnerable by getting ready to bathe. o Received a commission from the people of Kos and wanted a model of Aphrodite. He created 2 models a clothed version and a nude version. Kos rejected the nude model but Knidos bought her and displayed her proudly o Statue became widely known. o Not erotic or sexual rather sensual. She covers herself subconsciously. o
