INTRODUCTIONManaging employee performance and discipline deals with the organization's strategy, policy and,practices for establishing performance expectations for its employees, along with measuring andmonitoring the results. A comprehensive performance management system can play a strategic role inattracting and retaining key employees. It can also help significantly improve an organization’soverall performance. Managing employee performance and discipline helps the HR to evaluate andassess and used to support decisions related to training and career development, compensation,transfers, promotions, and reductions-in-force or employment termination.Managing employees and providing discipline to the members of an organization is very important.Just what Jim Rohn said, “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment” When anemployee is a well-disciplined, he knows his responsibilityand if employees are not disciplined toreport at work on time, take long breaks in between work or spend excessive time on social mediaand, etc. then their productivity tends to suffer. They fall behind in achieving their targets andaccomplishing the task at hand. This, in turn, demotivates them and there will be an effect on theproductivity and overall drop in team performance.Employee discipline enables a positive and healthy work environment and ensures the smoothfunctioning of the organization. It is one of the primary responsibilities of HR to evolve relevantdisciplinary policies and ensure their adherence. Aside from that, employee discipline helps theorganization to avoid complaints from customers that can have an impact on the reputation of thewhole organization.An effective disciplinary policy ensures proper order at the workplace through corrective behavior.Discipline management is intended to promote a minimum acceptable behavior by employees. Withorganizational discipline, the employees learn to behave in a controlled and responsible way and startabiding by the guidelines laid down by the organization.
Performance management is also important it includes information gathering through monitoringgoal completion, feedback, and discussions. Performance management helps to analyze success,strengths, learning from mistakes and examining potential for growth and development, businessescan develop talent, enhance individual performance and weed out problems.
