Charlton Messer Geography Pavlovic 004 Journal 8: American Education System I believe the state of American education system is at best average. We have too many people not learning the basics needed to go on and succeed in life that were supposed to be learned from kindergarten to eighth grade. I believe we have many problems, but I am going to focus on one in particular. In Texas we have a rule called the ‘ten percent rule.’ This rule allows anyone who is in the top ten percent of their senior class automatic admission into any state run school in Texas. Over half of the admissions to the University of Texas last year were top ten percent admissions that had to be accepted. This means everyone else has to compete with the best and brightest from other states that are applying as well. This rule gives an unfair advantage to people who are in small classes or in small towns with bad school systems, and to people with huge classes. I come from Dallas, a pretty big city.
