Shaun Wise 10/30/07 The writings of Marx show the effect that religion has on politics and the effect politics has on religion. Marx believes that a secular capitalist society the democratic system will be affected by the religious beliefs of people in the government. This causes the people of the society to be apart of a government that is not secular at all. “The religious spirit can be realized only in so far as that stage in the development of the human spirit of which it is the religious expression emerges and constitutes itself in its secular form.” ( 225 ) This statement is saying that the government will only have an understanding of religions from which they come from. If the people of the government are Christians, then the system will be directly affected by their religious beliefs.
