During my time there I always make sure to deliver blankets and food packages to the homeless using my savings. This is largely on railway platforms and tents set up on abandoned construction sites. Although my Hindi is not exceptional, being able to communicate even through physical gestures like smiling has been a heart-warming experience. Seeing the glow on their faces when receiving basic necessities drives home what I often take for granted. I wanted to continue this role so I have been working closely with a local charity called The Radheshyam Hope and The Cornerstone Daycentre, delivering food parcels to those in need.Manchester is rife with homelessness and it was an eye opener to see how dependent manyof these individuals are on the community around them. From the interactions I have had, the social complexities of drug and alcohol abuse became apparent, often instigated by traumatic life events and leading to further neglect.Caring Role 2As a GCSE mentor I have taught a year 11 pupil every week for an hour, focusing on improving her grade in Chemistry. Through this I gained the skill of active listening to give encouraging responses. Using non-verbal gestures such as nodding and smiling made her feel more comfortable and engaged. Keeping organised was vital to ensure appropriate learning targets were met and revision papers were accurately marked. During my weekendsI would plan lessons in advance, using an individual learning proforma in the form of bullet points. I was able to build trust through addressing her concerns for next lesson whilst also admitting to any areas I was unsure about, as it was important to work within the limits of
