1.How does critical thinking relate to peer assessment? What strategiesfrom this week can you apply when you assess Written Assignments?2.At this point, you have completed a practice assessment and an actualassessment of a Written Assignment. You have also rated posts eachweek on the Discussion Board. Has any part of the process surprisedyou? Do you have any concerns about assessment? To understand, how critical thinking relates to peer assessment we need todefine "critical thinking" first. As I mentioned in this week's discussion forumassignment, critical thinking includes not only finding weak spots in any ideabut also finding the value of something and stating what is good, what isbad, considering all pieces of evidence and knowledge before judging andmaking any decisions. So, critical thinking is a skill that we are practicingwhile assessing our peers. First, we read the work and check it according tocriteria, such as "are there answers to all questions?" or "is this clearlystated/defined" etc. We also check what references our peer used, if he orshe understood questions correctly and gave the right answers. After this, wecan evaluate this work and point to what we like about it. It is essential to doso because the only negative feedback can demotivate another student. Tobe honest, I believe that we can find something interesting and good at any, even the worst, work. Showing that we carefully read the topic and theassignment and sharing both - strong and weak points of it - is a part of thecritical thinking process. Finally, the result of the assessment is a formedopinion that is based on our critical thinking skills and work analysis.
