A saint is a person who came to know and love God, lived a life close to Jesus and is united forever with Him in Heaven. We can be sure that canonized saints are our brothers and sisters in Heaven who can pray for us. Just as we are able to ask friends and family members to pray for us, we can ask the saints in Heaven to pray for us. (CCC See glossary for the definition of a saint, 867, 2030) 7. The Saints want us to be with them in Heaven and they can pray for us and our needs. This is because there is a Communion of Saints. We should ask them to pray for us, venerate (honor) them, and learn about them by reading their lives. (CCC 956, 957, 959) 8. God wants everyone to be a saint. Our greatest happiness is achieved in becoming a saint.
