Tami Kunst Language and Rhetoric Great Writers Truthfully, reading is not my favorite subject, especially when I have to read essays that do not particularly interest me. During the semester, we had to read and respond to stories within the Mercury Reader. Not too many of the writers and their essays made me think, “Wow, what a great story,” except for one. Stephen King’s, “Why We Crave Horror Movies,” was the most straight to the point essay written. Being a fan of his movies and books, I was suspicious to what he had to say about the need to watch scary movies. Throughout his essay, he provided several reasons for the reader to why we want horror movies in our lives. His explanations and theories drive the reader to continue to hear more of what he has to say, for he exemplifies the perfect writer. The mere fact that Stephen King is the father of horror, engages the audience to read his thoughts of why we crave horror movies. His reasons for why are obvious. Basically, he reiterates what we already know, but in unique ways.
