Absolutism and RevolutionAudrey ToothmanThe American Revolution:This Revolution was triggered by some conflict over British rule and knowledgeable ideas, broke colonial ties with amonarchy and yielded a new nation.1763: The French and Indian War lasted from 1756 to 1763= and defined the struggle between Britain andFrance over India, Africa, and North America. When the war in North America ended, Britain was left inneed of money. Their solution was to demand taxes from the American colonies.1765: The Stamp Act of 1765 was the first internal tax forced onto the American colonists by the Britishgovernment.1770: Many unarmed colonists were killed by British soldiers in the Boston streets. After protesting,another group of unarmed protestors were gunned down in the streets of Boston.1773: Colonists disguised as Indians protested increasing British maltreatment by dumping over 90,000pounds of tea into the Boston Harbor. In retaliation, the British closed the harbor to trade as punishment.The closing of Boston Harbor was part of a series of punishments called the ‘Intolerable Acts.”1775: As a result of the “Intolerable Acts,” colonists revolted against British soldiers at the Battle ofLexington.
