Outline 10/18/07 -Performance Teams -The Party Line -Front and Back Regions -Switching Between Regions Performance teams: The Party Line Ensuring an appearance of unanimity: “Instead of a rich definition of the situation, reality may become reduced to a thin party line, for one may expect the line to be unequally congenial to all members of the team” (p.85) Ironic remarks: “a teammate joking rejects the line while seriously accepting it.” Not voicing opinions before the party line is set Loyalty to the team and teammates once the party line is set Appearance that negotiated positions were independently arrived(even though they were really negotiated) Our society values independent thinking, so several individuals, independently arriving at conclusion, is more valued than a group coming to a group conclusion Mistakes by teammates are punished after performance not during it.
