C P A To adjust for high- or low-scoring tendencies among online survey participants in particular countries and markets, we normalized the assessment of current capability, current importance, and future importance for each country and industry. In the five optional sections, respondents could answer questions on developing future leaders of the company, staying lean and becoming flexible, engaging employees, hardwiring HR and corporate strategy, and building an HR function focused on value creation. We conducted the online survey from December 2009 through March 2010, receiving 5,561 responses from executives in 109 countries. In conjunction with that survey, we interviewed 153 executives. In these one-on-one interviews, we explored HR topics and practices in greater depth, tried to understand how companies were making the transition from the recession to renewed growth, and discussed sustainable HR practices.
