John Bautista 05/20/13 Thursday Text In David Foster Wallace’s 'This is Water: A Commencement Address' , Wallace talks to graduating college students about the reality of the real world. He dosen't mention how a degree will help them move forward in thier intended career and how the knowlegde they learned would be appiled in real life situations, but instead its meant to give us the choice of 'what to think about' and how to react to certain things, people and actions. He also talks about how deep down inside us, we all see ourselves as the center of the universe, as we can only understand our own feelings and thoughts, therefore treating them as real and important, while others have to express thier own feelings and thoughts to us, in a way we can understand and better relate to. However, the reason why we believe we have this center of the universe mind-set deep inside of us is because, according to Wallace, our 'immediate needs and feelings are what should determine the world's priorities'.
