When this tab is selected, one of the WUC/UNS is also selected on the left side of the window. The right side which shows the part number, name, inventory class, subclass, and CAGE labels may be blank if there is no part number created against that WUC/UNS, and the Create Part and Assign Part toolbar buttons are enabled. However, if the WUC/UNS selected has part numbers assigned to it, the right side of the window also displays the part number data and all the toolbar buttons and functions/utilities icons are enabled. When this tab is selected, one of the WUC/UNS is also selected on the left side of the window. The right side which shows the part number, name, inventory class, subclass, and CAGE labels may be blank if there is no part number created against that WUC. The Create Part and the Assign Part toolbar buttons are the only ones enabled. However, if the WUC/UNS selected has part numbers assigned to it, the right side of the window also displays the part number data and all the toolbar buttons and functions/utilities icons are enabled. When you right-click on any tab, a shortcut menu appears with functions related to the tab. Also available are utilities and functions common to the other explorers or catalogs. For procedures, see Common Utilities and Functions in Explorers and Catalogs (on page 129). For procedures on the Part No. tab, see the applicable topic listed under "In This Section." Create a Part Number The Create a Part Number option on the Part No tab of the Assembly Explorer and the WUC/UNS dialog box, and the Create Part option on the Parts Catalog enable you to create a part number for a specific subWUC/UNS. Both the Assembly Explorer Part No tab and the Parts Catalog enable you to create a part number to the baseline with a specific WUC/UNS. In the Parts Catalog, the part number created is not assigned to a specific WUC/UNS. For Assembly Explorer: 1 Open the Assembly Explorer (see "How to Access the Assembly Explorer" on page 266). 2 Click the WUC/UNS on the Part No. tab to which the part number is to be created (when there is no existing part number). 3 Click the Create Part No button on the Part No. tab or rightclick the WUC/UNS and select Create Part No. The Part [NEW] dialog box appears with four tabs and a check box labeled "Preferred." Chapter 4 Configuration Management and Logs & Records Subsystem 273 4 Select the check box if the part being created is a PRIMARY part and not a substitute. 5 Enter the required data in each tab and click OK. The new part number with its related data appears on the right side of the Assembly Explorer. This process automatically adds the part number to the Parts Catalog.
