Callie McKay Ms. Bassett Period 6 May 7, 2013 The Stranger All of the existential statements that we looked at before reading  The   Stranger  are questions that Meursault questions in his everyday life. I have never  thought about these questions before but after reading the book, it has made me  more curious and I have begun to question them myself. One that struck out to  me that Meursault questioned himself was the statement about love, “Love is  impossible to sustain. It is a ridiculous concept to marry or commit oneself to a  long- term relationship.” For Meursault this is what he believes, and this is one of  the most frustrating things about his character in the book. Before reading the book, when I saw this statement I thought whoever  wrote it was crazy. Finding love and finding someone to spend the rest of my life  with is something I look forward to in life. I feel like it is one of the most  important aspects to life and without it I don’t feel like there is much to live for. I  do not believe love is impossible to sustain, it might be hard for people to find,  but it is not impossible to sustain. Once you have fallen in love with someone you
