German troops from Russia and France to protect Italy. June 4 th , 1944 Italy falls. - 1943 Churchill and Roosevelt decide on unconditional surrender. Very controversial. Made people feel that they would fight to the last man. - Operation Overlord. Turning point of war in Europe. June 6 th , 1944, D-Day. Allies land on beaches of France at Normandy. Eisenhower is put in charge of planning the invasion. Omaha beach faces the most opposition, face the Atlantic wall. - August 1944, Paris is liberated. - Battle of the Bulge. Last great offensive by the Germans - May 7 th 1945 Germany agrees to unconditional surrender. -
