Jessica Parnell Art History#10 Dr. Phillip Eliasoph Essay on Speaker 11/10/2006 Royals and the Reich: Dr. Jonathan Petropolis Dr. Jonathan Petropolis is a Professor at Claremont McKenna College. The main theme of the presentation was on the role of Art in Nazi Germany and the Royals who were involved with the Nazis as well. Art was crucial in supporting the Nazis; it was also involved in mass murders of many Jewish citizens. According to Petropolis, Art auctions such as the Van Gough action were used to raise funds for Nazis. When Jewish people were seized and sent to concentration camps, there precious belongings, such as Art works, were sent to Germany and plundered for money. Dr, Petropolis focused a lot on the Royal Hessen (Von Hessen) family who had a very elaborate way of living which included twelve gorgeous castles that were located through out Europe. The Hessen family had six children which included two sets of twins. The family was devastated when the eldest son dies in WWI. Phillip, one of the
