Jessica Parnell ENW 11: Composition Paper#3 10/27/2006 Strength Strength is defined as “The quality or state of being strong; bodily or muscular power; vigor” (dictionary.com). Strength may mean different things to different people. For most of my life, I also thought of strength as being a state of physical power. My personal definition of strength changed drastically when I met a peer by the name of Joshua Shaw. After getting to know Joshua, I have come to view strength not only physically but emotionally and mentally. Joshua was in a car accident when he was ten years old. His right arm was broken in twelve places and he sustained many other physical injuries. His arm had to be amputated. Joshua had a lot to deal with at a very young age. It was not until high school that we had the opportunity to meet. Joshua lives in Londonderry, New Hampshire which is about a half of an hour from where I live in Nashua, New Hampshire. He played lacrosse for the Londonderry Lancers, who were big rivals of my school the Nashua North Titans. To this day I can still remember the first day I watched him play lacrosse. He held his stick with his left hand on the top and cradled it with such finesse; he looked as if he had both arms in full function.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
