2 Decision One When deciding which disorders should be considered in the case for Katie, our 8-year-old female client, the reports of her previous and present symptoms need to be reviewed. Of the disorders to choose from, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) predominantly inattentive type, seems to suit the description of Katie’s struggles the most closely. The American Psychiatric Association (2013) defines ADHD as a neurodevelopmental disorder most common in children where they struggle with inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity in such a way that it can lead to complications with their everyday activities. Looking closer at the inattentive type of ADHD and the characteristics displayed by people suffering from it, the list of ailments describes Katie’s past and presenting symptoms of her behavior (Laureate Education, 2017 ) . Not paying close attention to details, having issues with staying focused on tasks, disliking tasks which require consistent mental effort, and being easily distracted are just a few examples (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
