Blane Smith Sociology 101 November 14, 2007 Sociology – Take Home Test 2 3. Immigration is one of the biggest problems that low-income, low-skilled black people face everyday. In the article “Job Issue Muddles Immigration Views,” John Henry Ford talks about how Latino workers are dominating the low-income work field. He wakes up every morning and stands in a labor pool on a Washington street corner surrounded by Latino workers. He believes that they come to the United States to replace them but he holds no hard feelings because they are simply trying to put a roof over their heads just like him. In a study by Pew Research center and Pew Hispanic Center, nearly a quarter of black workers had personally lost a job to an immigrant or knew someone who had. Less that one-fifth of whites could say that for themselves. However, two-thirds of whites and blacks agreed that immigrants are a burden to our society.
