Simon Hawkins Groupon Case January 23, 2013 Professor Brown D302 The twenty first century has brought about many new technological innovations that have changed the way business functions. Within just the past few years, people have gained the ability accept credit card payments with a cell phone, buy and sell stock online, and purchase virtually any product over the internet. In addition to these changes, there have also been many companies, which have started and changed the way we conduct seemingly simple tasks. A good example of this is Groupon. This company, which started small, has changed the way people use coupons and gift certificates. Back in 2003, a man by the name of Eric Lefkofsky decided to start a platform, which would be used to organize collective bargaining. The original name of this platform was The Point. Although this concept was successful, the platform soon became too abstract and complex. In an effort to make money with this concept, Groupon was created as a side project. Groupon started initially offering deals to businesses in Chicago, while it was developing how to put together the best deals that would appeal to both businesses and consumers. The thing that made this process so hard was that Groupon wanted to be able to have a presence in many different markets. Due to the fact that different markets usually require separate marketing strategies, the process was tricky.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
