Harsh Pardiwala Lab Instructor: Professor Keri Burt BIOL 1406-72203 Effects of Temperature on Enzymes Introduction: Purpose: This lab exercise is intended to show the changes and effects on enzymes due to temperature. Each enzymatic reaction has an optimum set of conditions that produces the most efficient enzyme activity. Optimum conditions vary from different enzymes depending on the natural environment or location of the reaction in the human body. In this lab activity temperature of the environment acts as the factor for the change. This experiment investigates the effects that temperature on the enzymatic activity of catechol oxidase. Hypothesis: The rate of the chemical reaction is largely determined by the temperature of the environment. The general rule of chemical reaction states that for every 10℃increase in temperature, so the reaction speeds up. If there are a reaction the color intensity changes.
