Lab Partner: Lab Section: Date: 2/19/07 Equilibrium of Concurrent Forces (Force Table) Abstract: The objective of this experiment was to study forces at equilibrium by studying different forces acting upon a stationary object then finding the horizontal and vertical components of these different forces. Theoretically, since the object is at equilibrium (not moving) then the sum of the horizontal and vertical components of the forces acting upon the stationary should be zero. For the first part of the lab, we obtained a total horizontal component of .036N, and a total vertical component of -.041N. In the second part of the experiment, we obtained a total horizontal component of -.057N and a total vertical component of -.021N. Theory: In this lab we used a Force Table to measure the angles of the forces acting upon a stationary object and let the stationary object be a ring in the middle of the Force Table. We then used string with weight attachments at the end of the strings so we could adjust the mass of each force acting upon the ring. We then calculated the forces acting upon the ring using the
