Homework #5 Individual ChE 381 Luke Kerns 3/ 2) Find a patent application filed after 2006 that involves Atkinson, Miller or Brayton cycle. In one paragraph, summarize the invention. Include a description of: (a) what have the inventors claimed to do that is new? (b) How is this invention relative to ChE 381? (c) How is the invention relative to your daily life? Provide the US Patent # ad the patent assignee. Inventors: Bennett; Charles L. (Livermore, CA) Assignee: Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC (Livermore, CA) Family ID: 39745579 Appl. Unformatted text preview: propeller for the aircraft. This technology is new due to the fact that it could create sustained free flight purely from the energy that the sun gives off. The invention is closely related to what we are covering in ChE 381 in the aspect of creating work from heat, i.e. (sun’s heat to work of turning propellers). We have learned in class that this is a very hard thing to do, and I think it would be even harder to do from just the suns heat rather than processes we have learned in class that involve combustion. Charles Bennett’s invention is applicable to my daily life in the aspect that this technology has no harm on our atmosphere or air that we breathe. It one day could also be the future of “free” flight and cut costs immensely from what it costs to fly today....
