Kamalei Lee Aug.11.12 Per.3 A Gathering of Old Men Write-up 1.Mathu is my favorite character because of the role he played for everyone in the story. Though he did not say or act out much throughout the story until the very end there was always a sense of importance that he held in the book to everyone around him. Candy was willing to risk her entire life for him as well as all the men around him so you knew he was someone that everyone looked up to and respected. They characters all spoke about how he was a black man that never took anything from anyone while everyone else remained scared and I liked how he never lived to please anyone but himself. I think he is a protagonist because even though he doesn’t talk much throughout the book he is being represented or talked about the whole time. 2.The scene in the bar with Luke Will and the man from Texas was easiest to visualize for me because I could feel the tension in the room from two people who
