Reaction Paper 1 2/11/08 The video Lies and How To Spot Them focused on what lies are and the different techniques in picking them out. I have actually seen the first section of the video in a previous class, although slightly repetitive, it helped to further explain the point it was trying to make. Being able to tell a lie and figuring out when someone is lying to you are two very different things. Telling lies is the easy part, especially if they are small lies. If one is highly invested in the situation, and the consequences of being caught are large, then the difficulty sets in. The movie focused on the nonverbal aspect of lying. What your body does either with or against what you are actually saying. The researcher says that if they are opposite it is likely that you are lying. This implies that every person who sweats a lot, does not make eye contact, gets very nervous, shrugs, etc…is lying. It is this implication that explains the statement “wrong place wrong time.” Although there are ways to tell if people are lying, not all people exhibit them the
