SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN AND POPULATION HEALTH 2 Social Media campaign and Population Health B. Population-focused health problem Before December 2019, many people within Florida had acute and chronic respiratory diseases. However, Covid-19 has emerged as the greatest public health concern within the state mainly due to the speed at which it spreads and the increased mortality rate since the first case was confirmed. Coronavirus affects everybody, but people with preexisting conditions and the elderly groups are the most at risk of death due to the disease (Ioannidis et al., 2020). According to Stokes et al. (2020), people with preexisting conditions are six times more likely to die than people without comorbid conditions. Ioannidis et al. (2020) also provide that Covid-19 patients above 65 years are highly likely to develop severe symptoms. The disease's cause is caused by the SARS-Cov-2 virus, which is spread through direct contact with an infected person or contaminated objects. Controlling Covid-19 would call for control of human behavioral change within the state through thorough washing of hands with soap, maintaining social distancing, and wearing of a mask to control respiratory fluids. Even though Covid-19 is a global concern, it is the most significant health issue within the community. The prevalence of Covid-19-19 has resulted in congestion of community health centers. According to Kim (2020), 61% of patients admitted to health centers are low-income, and most are people of color. Health Resources & Services Administration report (2021) reports that 55% of the minority group in Florida have tested positive. Health centers used by low- income earners comprising the minority group reported inadequate protective and screening equipment (HRSA, 2021). This presents an inequality as hospitals used by working-class citizens are well-equipped to offer better quality and effective healthcare.
SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN AND POPULATION HEALTH 3 The primary community resources that can address Covid-19 health concerns are community healthcare centers and internet resources. Community health centers have been used as isolation centers for people with moderate to high symptoms of Covid-19. Health centers' focus is to manage the symptoms, educate patients on how to avoid spread and re-infection, and treat preexisting conditions. There are no identifiable underlying causes of Covid-19. However, certain underlying conditions increase the severity of the symptoms and risk of Covid-19 deaths. These include respiratory and cardiovascular diseases such as asthma, stroke, high blood pressure, and Chronic
