The significance of these rules is founded onthe premise that engineering is a field whose effects are felt across the social levels. This means that failure to adhere to the engineering rules will place the society at risk of significant losses, which can include the loss of life. In this paper, a discussion is provided regarding the use of AI in engineering and the ethical issues linked to the phenomena. It is indicated that while AI and automation may lead to significant job losses, the technical engineering professionals may not be significantly impacted. Even so, the issue of privacy emerges as the greatest ethical challenge which engineering professionals have to constantly deal with. Privacy issues lead to several detrimental effects which can only be addressed in the event greater care provided in the course of designing the engineering AI systems.

With the development of technology, the engineering arena has seen a significant integration of AI to ensure that efficiency and cost effectiveness is achieved. Nevertheless, it is critical to examine the full moral aspects of the AI systems to ensure that the unintended negative consequences and risks that arise from their implementation are avoided. BackgroundEngineering Ethics The National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) is a body that decides on the general standards of ethics for all engineering professionals. In a preamble coined in the year 2007, it is highlighted that at all times, engineers should recognize that their pivotal obligation is to ensure that the public safety, health, property and welfare is always protected (Nguyen, 2013). In the event the professional decisions are overruled at any point such that the four social aspects are endangered, they should report the incident to their employer and any other appropriate authority.
