1. The graph below represents the relationship between the number of hours worked and the weekly salary an employee earns. 2. 1. Explain the change in direction of the graph. The change of direction represents the change of the payment rate of the workers depending on the hours worked. This change occurs when the line reaches the hours. 2. Calculate both rates of pay. From 0 to 40 hours workers get paid 10 dollars per hour, then 41 to 60 hours they get paid upward of 11 dollar per hour 3. A tortoise and a hare have a 500m race. The following table of values shows their progress during the race. Time (min) Hare’s Distance (m) Tortoise’s Distance (m 0 0 0 2 80 50 4 160 100 6 240 150 8 320 200
10 400 250 12 400 300 14 400 350 16 400 400 18 400 450 20 500 500 1. Use the table to give a description of what happens during the race. The hare was winning until the 10th minute because it looks like he stopped moving and the tortoise got an advantage on the 18th minute but the hare got back up on the 20th and they ended up being tied. 2. Determine the speed(s) travelled by both the tortoise and the hare.
